At JADIS Kindergarten, we lay the foundation for lifelong learning by focusing on early reading skills, including a review of letter sounds and shapes, printing capital and lowercase letters, and developing pre-reading abilities such as decoding consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words. Students progressively move toward greater reading fluency.
Kindergarten students also learn sight words and enjoy activities with rhyming words. They begin to explore the creative writing process by understanding the key elements of a story, including the roles of authors and illustrators.
Our approach to literacy incorporates hands-on, literature-based activities that help children develop phonemic awareness, alphabetic principles, concepts about print, and comprehension strategies. students focus on foundational skills in reading and writing, with an emphasis on understanding long vowels and short vowels.
Reading: Students practice recognizing sight words, sounding out simple words, and gradually begin reading short sentences.
Writing:
They work on writing letters correctly, form simple sentences, and start creative writing by labeling pictures or writing short stories.
In Mathematics, the curriculum focuses on building number sense, exploring beginning geometry, understanding measurement, analyzing data, and recognizing patterns and sequencing. Students actively engage in these areas through both independent tasks and collaborative activities.
We offer two sections: American and British, allowing students to benefit from diverse approaches to learning while maintaining a consistent focus on foundational skills.
Active Learning and Inquiry-Based Approach
In all subject areas, learning is achieved through active and inquiry-based learning, where students are encouraged to ask questions, explore ideas, and engage in critical thinking activities. These strategies enhance their understanding and promote intellectual curiosity.
Extracurricular Activities and Field Trips
Outside of the classroom, students enjoy a wide variety of extracurricular activities, including sports, arts, and academic clubs, that help them develop creativity, teamwork, and leadership skills. Regular field trips further enrich the learning experience by providing real-world connections to their studies and broadening their perspectives.
These activities are designed to be both educational and enjoyable, ensuring that each child’s learning experience is well-rounded, engaging, and interactive.
